Biola University Visitation: Where Faith Shapes Learning

08 Sep 2026

What makes education truly meaningful? Beyond academic achievement and essential skills, it is the values that shape how students think, learn, and engage with the world. This shared belief was at the heart of a meaningful visit to IPEKA INTEGRATED Christian School (IICS) by representatives from Biola University.

IICS was delighted to welcome Dr. June Hetzel and Dr. Nathan Herzog for a closer look at the school’s teaching and learning environment. Through classroom visits and conversations with the school community, the representatives gained insight into how IICS integrates academic development with a Christ-centered approach to education.

During their classroom observations, they saw students from Preschool through High School actively exploring ideas, thinking critically, collaborating with their peers, and participating in meaningful learning experiences. These moments reflected an educational environment where curiosity is encouraged, questions are welcomed, and students are given opportunities to develop their understanding of the world around them.

Dr. Nathan Herzog, Dean of Biola University’s School of Education, shared how faith influences the way educators approach teaching and how students understand their place in the world. He emphasized that beliefs about God, humanity, and truth shape the educational experience, influencing how teachers guide learning and how young people prepare for adulthood.

Dr. June Hetzel, Faculty Emerita at Biola University, also expressed her appreciation for the joyful learning environment at IICS. She was particularly impressed by the enthusiasm of students across different age groups and the dedication of teachers who nurture not only academic knowledge but also Christian values.

These reflections align with IICS’s commitment to holistic education. As an international Christian school, IICS believes that meaningful learning goes beyond what students know and what they can accomplish. It also involves developing Christ-like character, strengthening faith, and cultivating the integrity, wisdom, and compassion needed to navigate life’s challenges.

The visit offered an opportunity to exchange perspectives on teaching and learning while reaffirming the importance of placing faith and values at the heart of education. Such conversations encourage educators to continue reflecting on their practices and creating learning experiences that support every student’s growth.

At IICS, education is a journey of discovering potential and purpose. By nurturing curious minds and grounding students in Christian values, the school seeks to prepare young people to engage thoughtfully with a diverse and interconnected world.

With a shared commitment to meaningful education, IICS continues to shape minds for the world while anchoring hearts in Christ.
