Celebrating Diversity Through Indonesian Culture Day at IICS Elementary

In an age where global awareness is essential, teaching children to appreciate their own roots is just as important. Cultural education helps students develop a strong sense of identity and pride especially when introduced in early years. At IICS Elementary, this commitment came to life through Indonesian Culture Day. It is an annual celebration that brought students, staff, and culture together in one vibrant event. Held in the Rev. Dr. William Hosanna Auditorium, the occasion transformed the space into a colorful showcase of Indonesia’s rich heritage.

From Grade 1 to Grade 6, students took part by wearing traditional costumes from various regions—from Sumatra to Papua. After that, the students performed dances that reflected the beauty and diversity of the archipelago. Above all, with every step, beat, and smile, they shared stories from across the islands in ways that were both educational and joyful.

Adding to the atmosphere was the presence of parents, who came to support their children and enjoy the performances. As a result, their involvement created a stronger sense of community and made the event even more meaningful—for both the students and their families.

More than just a performance, the event served as an immersive learning experience. Firstly, students didn’t only memorize movements; they learned about regional histories, cultural values, and the significance behind the traditions they represented. For many, it was their first time stepping into another part of Indonesia—without leaving the stage.

To sum it up, activities like Indonesian Culture Day are part of a broader mission to shape well-rounded individuals. Character development, cultural awareness, and joyful learning are interwoven with spiritual growth and academic excellence.

Events like these show that meaningful education goes beyond textbooks. In addition, they offer students opportunities to express themselves, celebrate their identity, and grow as responsible citizens with global insight and local pride.

At IICS, a Christian school committed to holistic development, every moment—whether in class or on stage—is designed to nurture the hearts and minds of future leaders.
