Accompanying Children Learn During Pandemic
Accompanying children learning from home during a pandemic is not as easy as imagined. The following are tips to guide children to learn from home well
- Involve Children in Setting Schedules
When children are involved in making rules or schedules, this will make children more inclined to accept and follow the rules or schedules. We as parents can discuss and ask our children for opinions about what time they should wake up, dress, and get ready for school from home, as well as when it's time to take a break from schoolwork.
Discuss and determine also times when we can help children with projects and when they need to learn on their own. - Give Children Choices
Children do have to study and do their schoolwork, but letting them choose how to do it can make children feel less pressured or forced.
Parents can also give children choices about what fun activities they want to do at the end of the day or for a study break. This can increase their enthusiasm to study harder. - Give Reasons for Rules Made
When parents give reasons why mom or dad forbids or asks for something to be done, children are more accepting and understand why they have to obey the rules. - Solving Problems Together
Even though we've tried to do some things, sometimes things don't go according to plan. There will be times when we get frustrated, nag, and scream. When all the efforts that are tried don't work, parents can try to solve problems together with their children which means involving empathy, identifying problems, and finding ways to solve them.
