In KBBI (Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia), belajar originates from the word ajar, which means guidance that is given to know or obey. The word belajar can be defined as efforts to obtain guidance. A guidance is like a signpost that guides us to reach our destination. So, belajar should be an effort to get to destinations.

The goal of the Christian life is to glorify God. Therefore, in the context of Christian life, learning means efforts to obtain guidance to glorify the Lord. That is why learning is a must for Christians.

Besides through His words, God can use our life experience to take us to our life goals. Let’s read Genesis 50:20, “But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.” Joseph’s life story reminds us that we can learn from life experience to understand God’s will. Joseph understood God’s great plans through His long experience from when he was thrown into a pit by his brothers to when he was a prime minister in Egypt.

Therefore, there are two important things for us to learn to reach our goal. First, learn from the Book of Life, that is, the words of God. Second, learn from life itself. Be sensitive to God’s will in each of our experiences. Let’s be learners.
