Study Like A Tree

Study Like A Tree

“Son, why aren’t you studying?”
“There is no need to study, Mom. No tests and holiday is starting soon.”

What comes to your mind about the world “study” from the conversation? Some people perceive studying as the process of repeating a lesson in school. There are also people who think that studying is an activity that has its own schedule, in other words, if there is no test or homework, there is no need to study. When drawn more generally, studying is only identified as an activity of seeking knowledge when a person is still at the school level. Is that right? Does studying stop when someone graduates from a certain level of education?

A politician, Newton D. Baker stated that “The man who graduates today and stops learning tomorrow is uneducated the day after.”

Therefore, studying isn’t a single process or limited to a situation. Human life is like a tree that only has two choices, to continue growing or to stop growing, which means wither and fall. Apart from needing sunlight, a tree will be able to grow when it starts to absorb the good water and nutrients in the soil. The wider the roots spread in the soil and the more good things it absorbs, the healthier, stronger, and bigger the tree will be. The resulting fruit will be more abundant and ripe. Just like humans, the more effort invested in learning positive things, the more “richer” a person will be in information that is useful for life. So, let us be lifelong learners. “Get wisdom, get understanding, don’t forget, and don’t deviate from the words of my mouth. Do not leave wisdom, and it will protect you, love it, and it will guard you” (Proverbs 4:5-6).
